Full Version: Volume weight of water

In Ple4Win the default volume weight of water is 10 kN/m3. If you consider gravitational acceleration of 9.81 m/s2 the volume weight of water is then 9.81 kN/m3.

Is it possible to change the default value to 0.00000981 N/mm3.

P Herwig MSc

It would be easy to change the default value. However, 1) we are talking about the volume weight of groundwater, not pure water and 2) in the light of the uncertainty factors [UNCER] such accuracy seems somewhat misplaced.
For example when you have saturated peat (volume weight 10 kN/m3 according to NEN 3650-1 table B.1) the vertical grain pressure is then 0. This is not the case when you use 9.81 kN/m3 as volume weight for water.

P Herwig MSc

Correct, if the volume weight of the saturated soil is equal to the volume weight of the water, the vertical grain pressure will be zero.

Paul, it looks like 0.00000981 N/mm3 is not yet impleted in version 4.3.0, see printscreen below (from the online helpfile):

Dear Shaswin, due to the lower priority of ticket 1102 it has not yet been implemented. I increased the priority to ensure quicker implementation.

Implemented in the upcoming release.
