Specification of rate of vertical soil reactions and soil loads to act as horizontal soil support reactions (Input Table)
Through the input data table LAMBDA a horizontal soil support at both sides of a cross-section may be specified. The parameter LAMBDA is defined as a ratio factor. This ratio factor is applied on the calculated vertical compressive force from the vertical soil reactions on the cross-section. The vertical compressive force is calculated as the half of the sum of
•soil loadings and soil reactions on top of the cross-section and
•soil reactions at the bottom of the cross-section, both with dimension force per unit of length.
The value of the parameter LAMBDA is attached to each mid-element section by relating the coordinate of that mid-element section to the polygon data line and interpolating the parameter values at adjacent reference points. Coordinates of successive data table lines shall have increasing values. The parameter is taken as a constant at a given cross-section and not varied in the way the other soil parameters are treated.
The horizontal soil support is assumed to act over angles of 120 degrees symmetrically to the horizontal y-axis of the LOCAL element coordinate system.
